Housing Coordinator

Supervisor:

The Property Manager will supervise the Housing Coordinator. Oversight of specific projects will be delegated to other CVCLT staff.

Overall Objectives:

  • Identify and refer housing opportunities to CVCLT customers;
  • Involve resident and community volunteers in activities supporting our neighborhoods. Foster resident leadership within our organization and community;
  • Identify and refer services to CVCLT residents to improve their ability to live independently and/or if appropriate to retain their housing;
  • Maintain and/or improve tenant/landlord relationships.

Functions of the Position:

  1. Be available in the main office at regularly scheduled times to provide comprehensive housing referral services (primarily to assist households complete rental applications) for all CVCLT and Central VT Rental Opportunity Center customers walking in, calling, or emailing.
  2. Be available to visit with our elderly residents at Cabot, Evergreen Place, Mad River Meadows, and other locations as opportunities arise at our family properties. The focus will be to coordinate gatherings and respond to the resident's interests.
  3. Actively collect current, specific housing and social services resource information. Establish relationships with advocacy organizations, housing providers, service providers and state and quasi-state agencies such as Coordinated Statewide Housing Services (Mobile Home Project, VT Tenants Inc. Fair Housing Project) Public Housing Authorities, private landlords, and other organizations to the Vermont Center for Independent Living, Washington County Mental Health Services Inc., Central Vermont Community Action Council Inc., Central Vermont Council on Aging, and Vermont Agency of Human Services in order to update and distribute a Housing Resource Directory for use by CVCLT customers.
  4. Participate in monthly Washington County Continuum of Care – act as the point person, take meeting minutes, send meeting reminders, etc.
  5. Refer and link CVCLT residents when appropriate to visiting nurse services, meals on wheels, transportation, housekeeping assistance, case management, and other services. Follow up with the individuals involved with ongoing services from community when necessary.
  6. Coordinate the delivery of services that shall benefit the growth and development of CVCLT residents. Examples include programs offered through the Homeownership Center of Central Vermont.
  7. Produce quarterly newsletters for all CVCLT properties. Keep bulletin boards active.
  8. Assist residents in building resident organizations; support volunteers and provide technical assistance to resident organizations.
  9. Recruit volunteers to participate in organizing green-up days and other social events at the properties.

Other:

Participate in monthly Washington County Continuum of Care and other community based meetings as assigned by supervisor. Other relevant duties as assigned by supervisor.

Commitment:

September 24th, 2008 – end of August, 2009. Position requires 1,700 hours for an average of 35.5 hours per week for 11 months.

Benefits:

AmeriCorps members receive a living allowance of $13,056. Members will also receive health insurance, diverse training opportunities and an education award of $4,725.
